Kirrily Pells is Lecturer in Childhood at UCL Institute of Education where she is the Programme Leader for the MA Sociology of Childhood and Children’s Rights. Her research and teaching are in the field of childhood studies and concerns global childhoods and children’s rights especially in relation to violence, poverty and intersecting inequalities. Her current research focuses on memories in childhood and intergenerational relations. Kirrily is PI of ‘Connective Memories: intergenerational expressions in contemporary Rwanda’ which is exploring how memories are constituted, mediated and negotiated in intergenerational relations using arts-based methods. Kirrily also researches the intersections and dynamics between structural, symbolic and interpersonal violences in the lives of children and youth. She is a Research Associate with the Young Lives study, University of Oxford and led the research on violence affecting children in Ethiopia, India, Peru and Vietnam, in partnership with UNICEF Office of Research.
