Situated in the vibrant cultural landscape of Nepal, the Dēudā Folklore research project, led by the University for Creative Arts, UK, in partnership with a local NGO, the Volunteers and Research Foundation Nepal (VRFN), explored the powerful potential of tradition and social transformation.
This photo storybook captures the key milestones of this journey. Over the course of a year, the project delved deep into the rich tapestry of Dēudā folklore, traversing the landscapes of tradition and modernity, power relations, gender dynamics, and heritage.
“The heart of our journey, lies not only in the places we visited, or the events we hosted, but in the voices we heard, the social mood we witnessed and the stories we uncovered. Through intensive interviews with artists, academics, social workers, politicians, and media, we unearthed the narratives that breathe life into the traditions of the past and illuminate the path towards a future that celebrates Dēudā Folklore.”
