Dr. Laura Lee brings more than 15 years of experience in strengthening global child health programming, prevention, protection and services in humanitarian and development settings. Specializing in community-based participatory research methodologies, arts-based methodologies, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, HIV, gender, child protection and participation, she has carried out academic and applied research with children and youth in countries in East and Southern Africa (Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda), Asia (India), the Middle East (Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq) and North and South America (Bolivia, Canada). Laura is the Director of Research and Innovation of The Institute for International Child Rights and Development and co-developed and piloted YouCreate, an arts-based participatory action research for social change with young people in Iraq and Egypt (2017-19, IICRD/Terres des hommes). In 2015, she obtained her PhD in Global health (Interdisciplinary Studies) from University of British Columbia for her work on the sexual health of young women heading households in Nakuru County, Kenya. Laura is an Adjunct Faculty member in the Branch of International Surgical Care, Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia and an Associate Faculty at Royal Roads University.
