A discussion with mental health professionals / UNM

The MAP project team in Rwanda is celebrating the MAP International Conference with young people, MAP clubs, mental health professionals, teachers, cultural artists, and policymakers. Four MAP projects in Rwanda will come together for a one-day local conference event in Kigali to share the journey and findings of the research project. The MEN – ART project, led by Uyisenga ni Imanzi (UNM), will share how they are developing innovations in mental health services, and the Visualising Peace project will focus on their approach to using film to address young people’s mental health. The film produced by the project calls on policymakers to support children with problems and to work together to tackle these problems as a means of improving child protection. In addition, the Gira Ingoma – One Drum Per Girl project, led by the Women Cultural Centre, will present how they involved 250 girls from 10 primary and/or secondary schools in Huye and Gisagara districts in drumming, warrior dance (guhamiriza), poetry (kwivuga), singing and juggling to address persistent gender stereotypes. Finally, Picturing Past, Present and Future project, which works with young girls, will present its approach to empowering girls through the arts of Imigongo and Mithila, where young girls have projected their past challenges, portrayed their present and depicted their dreams.
