During May 2023, the Intergenerational Dialogue Project, supported by colleagues from Kathmandu University and lead YAAR Juhi Adhikari, visited Tikabhairav village and a public secondary school, just outside the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. Through peer to peer training on the use of Image Theatre, students were introduced to working with ‘sculptor’ and ‘clay’ exercises as a way to discuss social problems and propose solutions, amongst themselves and their teachers/communities.
The social problem identified in the images here relate to lack of budgeting and saving skills. The project also conducted similar trainings in five other areas, and issues identified varied from ways to tackle drug abuse, as well as reduce discrimination against girls.
You can also read a blog from a similar arts based training, in Hetauda, from Anjana (a young researcher) here.
